Meet the teachers of Avatar Yoga School in Rishikesh. Each one leads the subjects he or she knows best, from Hatha yoga and pranayama to philosophy, anatomy and meditation, and each one has time to answer your questions in plain English.

The teachers at Avatar Yoga School lead the subjects they know best, such as asana, pranayama, meditation, philosophy or anatomy, so that you learn each subject from someone who practises and teaches it regularly. Together they cover Hatha yoga, Kundalini yoga, Yin yoga and sound healing.
Good teaching is more than knowledge. In a residential course you meet your teachers early in the morning and again in the evening, so you quickly notice whether they explain clearly, listen to questions and respect your limits. We choose and support teachers with that in mind.
Classes are taught in English, in plain words. Teachers demonstrate, correct and encourage, and they are available between sessions for questions about practice, study and teaching.
This page introduces the team and explains how you can judge a yoga teacher for yourself. If you want to know exactly who will teach your batch, ask the team before you book.

You learn from teachers who each lead one area of the course: asana, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, anatomy or a specialty such as Yin, Kundalini or sound healing.
We look for four qualities: a daily practice, the ability to explain, respect for each student and a habit of learning. Qualifications matter, but how a teacher actually teaches matters more.
A teacher who practises daily knows how a pose, a breath or a meditation really feels, and can describe it honestly.
Knowing a subject and teaching it are different skills. Our teachers break ideas into small steps and answer questions without hurry.
They offer easier versions, watch your breathing and would rather you rest than push into pain.
Good teachers keep studying. They read, practise with other teachers and update how they teach as they learn.
Each subject has a teacher who leads it. Here is what you study and where it appears in our courses.
| Subject | What you study | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Asana | Alignment, sequencing, variations and props | All teacher trainings and retreats |
| Pranayama | Breathing techniques, bandhas and cleansing | All teacher trainings and retreats |
| Meditation | Silent sitting, mantra and yoga nidra | All courses |
| Philosophy | Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Bhagavad Gita | Teacher trainings |
| Anatomy | Joints, spine, injuries and safe adjustments | Teacher trainings |
| Teaching methodology | Planning, cueing, adjusting and practice teaching | Teacher trainings |

See how each subject fits into the 200 hour course or the 300 hour course.
A good yoga teacher has three things: recognised training, real teaching experience and the ability to explain. Qualifications matter, but none of them replaces the way a teacher actually teaches.
Yoga Alliance lists teachers as RYT 200 or RYT 500 once they complete registered training. Teachers who have also taught for several years can qualify as E-RYT, which means experienced registered yoga teacher: at least two years of teaching for E-RYT 200 and four years for E-RYT 500.
Ask to see a teacher's training, how long they have taught and which subjects they teach best. A good teacher answers openly and does not claim to know everything.
You can ask about our teachers, read what students say about them and speak with the team before you pay. Choosing a teacher you trust is part of choosing a course.
Send the course and month you have in mind on WhatsApp and ask who will teach. The team replies with names, subjects and teaching styles.
Student reviews and videos often mention the teachers by name. Read the student reviews to see how students describe them.
If you are already in Rishikesh, ask the team whether you can see the school and meet a teacher before you book.
