First-time retreat guests
If you have never been on a retreat, a week is a gentle way to start. Classes are adapted to the group, and the daily rhythm is easy to follow.
Avatar Yoga School's 7, 10 and 14 day yoga retreats in Rishikesh are residential programs for your own practice. Each day brings yoga, pranayama and meditation, simple vegetarian meals and time to rest by the Ganga, with no exams and no teaching certificate. Choose the length that fits your calendar.

A yoga retreat in Rishikesh is a short, residential stay built around yoga, breathing and meditation, without the exams and teaching practice of a teacher training. At Avatar Yoga School you can choose a 7, 10 or 14 day retreat. Every day follows the same simple rhythm: practice in the morning, rest, a little study and a quiet evening.
People come for many reasons. Some want a break from work and screens. Others want to restart a practice that faded, to try yoga in India for the first time or to see whether a longer teacher training would suit them. You do not need experience, and you do not need to be flexible. Teachers adapt the classes to the group.
Rishikesh is a good place for this. The town sits where the Ganga leaves the Himalayan foothills, the mornings are quiet and the school is in Swargashram, close to the river. After a few days the routine does its own work: you wake early, move, breathe, eat well and sleep.
A retreat is not a medical program, and it will not solve every problem in a week. What it can do is give you a steady routine, good teaching and enough time to notice how you feel. If you later want a certificate, you can continue to the 100 hour or 200 hour yoga teacher training.

Choose 7 days for a first retreat or a short break, 10 days for a deeper reset and 14 days if you want time to settle into a routine. The daily rhythm is the same, so a longer stay adds depth rather than speed.
| Feature | 7 days | 10 days | 14 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | A first retreat or a short break | A deeper reset with more time | Settling into a real routine |
| Pace | A quick start, you learn the routine fast | A steady pace with time to adjust | A slow build with room to rest |
| What you cover | Core practice: yoga, pranayama and meditation | More time for talks and quiet practice | The full routine with longer sits and deeper study |
| Good if | You have one week of leave | You want more than a week but not a month | You want to change your daily habits |
Not sure which length fits? Message the team with your dates and experience and they will suggest one.
The retreat suits first-time guests, busy professionals, regular students who want a reset, and anyone who wants to try yoga in Rishikesh before a longer course.
If you have never been on a retreat, a week is a gentle way to start. Classes are adapted to the group, and the daily rhythm is easy to follow.
A retreat gives you structure when your own days feel crowded. You leave your phone aside for most of the day and let someone else plan your meals and classes.
You may practise at a studio or at home and feel that the routine has gone flat. A few days of daily guided practice often brings fresh energy and curiosity.
If you are thinking about a teacher training, a retreat lets you meet the teachers and the school and see whether the routine suits you before you commit.
You will practise Hatha yoga, pranayama and meditation every day, attend short talks on yoga philosophy and have plenty of time to rest. Nothing is compulsory, and you can step out whenever you need to.
Daily classes teach the main poses with careful alignment. Teachers offer easier and harder versions, so beginners and regular students can share the same room.
Learn simple breathing practices and when to use them. You also learn what to skip, so you can keep up a short practice at home.
Sit quietly every day and practise yoga nidra, a guided deep rest. Teachers explain the methods in plain words, so you can use them after you leave.
Short talks introduce ideas from the Yoga Sutras and other texts, such as the eight limbs of yoga. They stay practical and leave room for questions.
Between sessions you rest, read, write or walk. Free time is part of the program, because the practice works best when you are not rushed.
There is time to walk through town and to visit the evening Ganga aarti by the river, which many guests count among the best moments of the stay.
Activities can change with the season and the group. Ask the team for the current program before you book.
A typical retreat day begins in the early morning with pranayama and meditation and ends with a quiet evening. There is plenty of free time between sessions. Timings shift a little with the season, so ask for the current timetable.

A retreat moves through three stages: settling in, going deeper and taking it home. A 7 day stay compresses them, and a 14 day stay lets each stage breathe.
You arrive, meet the group and learn the daily rhythm. Teachers keep classes gentle, so your body can adjust to the climate, the food and the early mornings.
Practice becomes steadier. Classes feel more familiar, and there is more room for quiet sitting and for questions about breath and posture.
Teachers help you build a short home routine that fits your life, and you leave with simple practices that you can keep up after you return.
Your first day is slow on purpose. You arrive, settle in, meet the teachers and the group, and join a gentle first class or an evening session.
Arrive in the afternoon if you can. The team shows you your room, explains the daily timetable and answers questions about meals, water and Wi-Fi.
In the evening you meet the group and the teachers, hear how the days work and share any injuries or health needs, so that classes can be adapted.
The first class is short and kind. It helps you stretch after the journey and gives teachers a first look at how each person moves.
A retreat is for your own practice and rest. A teacher training is for learning to teach. Choose a retreat if you want a break or a first taste, and a teacher training if you want a certificate.

You get the dates, the price and the inclusions in writing before you pay, and nobody pushes you to decide. We will suggest a shorter or longer stay if it suits you better.
The price depends on the length of your stay and on the room you choose. It covers yoga classes, accommodation and vegetarian meals, per person.
These sessions are included in the retreat price at no extra cost.
A private room costs more than a shared room, so ask the team for both prices. The payment page explains the booking advance and refund terms.
A retreat usually covers daily yoga and meditation, accommodation and vegetarian meals. Flights, visa, travel insurance and personal expenses are normally extra. Ask the team for the exact list for your dates and room.
When you compare retreats, look at the full picture. A lower price that leaves out meals or classes can cost more in the end. Ask for the inclusions in writing.
